Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Urges Lawmakers to Vote on Clarity Act, Quotes Satoshi Nakamoto<\/a><\/p>\n

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday became the latest major figure to support the crypto Clarity Act \u2014 and quoted<\/a> Satoshi Nakamoto while doing it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Writing on X, the politician urged the Senate \u201cvote NOW on this landmark legislation,\u201d and blasted Democrats \u2014 focusing on Elizabeth Warren \u2014 for holding back the bill.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lawmakers are hoping the Clarity Act gets passed before Congress departs for August recess. While the bill has been drafted bipartisanly, some Democrats are unhappy with the current version.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is that Senate Democrats are afraid to advance the Clarity Act as they fear Senator Warren and the \u2018Anti-Crypto Army\u2019 she once promised to build,\u201d wrote Bessent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWill Senate Democrats be on the side of American Exceptionalism, or will they opt to cede American leadership of a global industry for fear of the bespectacled squirrel\u2019s Left flank?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica will lead or America won\u2019t. It\u2019s not more complicated than that. I believe Satoshi once said it best: \u2018If you don\u2019t believe me or don\u2019t get it, I don\u2019t have time to try to convince you, sorry.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrat Senator Warren has long criticized the crypto industry. Her attacks on the space have become fiercer following President Donald Trump\u2019s support for all things crypto.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lawmakers are currently mulling over a new draft of the Clarity Act. A number of major nonprofits and financial institutions<\/a> have backed the bill, which includes amendments addressing ethics, but some Democrats are still unhappy with how it is worded.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Warren last week blasted the bill, claiming<\/a> it would \u201cmake it easier for criminals to move money\u201d and that \u201cit does not stop Donald Trump from cashing in on his presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Trump campaigned on a ticket to help the crypto industry and received major backing from digital asset entrepreneurs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But some Washington lawmakers have criticized the way the Trump family has profited from digital asset ventures, such as the Republican\u2019s meme coin, TRUMP, and World Liberty Financial project.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump and the White House have always denied any conflicts of interest.\u00a0<\/p>\n

US banking representatives, regulators and crypto bigwigs have been meeting at the White House to work on the Clarity Act since last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If approved, it would set in stone crypto regulation in the world\u2019s largest economy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
