The bank already <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/jpmorgan-confirms-clients-will-trade-bitcoin-and-crypto\">allows crypto-linked<\/a> exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/jpmorgan-to-offer-clients-financing-against-bitcoin-crypto-etfs\">collateral<\/a>, but this expansion would enable clients to borrow against their direct crypto holdings.<\/p>\n<p>The shift could make it easier for institutions to access liquidity without selling long-term digital asset positions \u2014 a use case that has gained traction among hedge funds and family offices.<\/p>\n<p>The development represents a broader acceptance of digital assets across the financial sector.\u00a0 Other major banks, including <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/morgan-stanley-advises-btc-allocation\">Morgan Stanley<\/a>, BNY Mellon, State Street, and Fidelity, have been expanding crypto custody and trading services amid increasing regulatory clarity in the U.S. and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>JPMorgan first began exploring lending against Bitcoin in 2022 but the project was delayed, according to <em>Bloomberg.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jamie Dimon\u2019s changing tone on crypto<\/h2>\n<p>JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has long been one of crypto\u2019s most vocal skeptics, previously calling Bitcoin a \u201cfraud\u201d and a \u201cpet rock.\u201d In 2023, he said he was \u201cdeeply opposed\u201d to Bitcoin and claimed it was used mainly for illicit activity.<\/p>\n<p>However, his tone has recently softened. \u201cI don\u2019t think we should smoke, but I defend your right to smoke,\u201d Dimon said earlier this year. \u201cI defend your right to buy Bitcoin, go at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p>In 2023, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said he was &#8220;deeply opposed&#8221; to Bitcoin and that it was for criminals.<\/p>\n<p>Today, JPMorgan plans to allow institutional clients to use Bitcoin as collateral. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WMPg8qy9UW\">pic.twitter.com\/WMPg8qy9UW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bitcoin Magazine (@BitcoinMagazine) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BitcoinMagazine\/status\/1981677245988270273?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">October 24, 2025<\/a>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Despite Dimon\u2019s reservations, JPMorgan has steadily increased its crypto exposure. The bank has launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/citi-to-launch-crypto-custody-service-in-2026-as-wall-street-deepens-bitcoin-push\">J.P. Morgan Deposit Token<\/a> (JPMD) \u2014 a blockchain-based alternative to stablecoins \u2014 and expanded its Kinexys blockchain network, which now processes more than $2 billion in daily transactions across carbon markets, supply chain finance, and cross-border payments.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bitcoin and Ethereum prices rise<\/h2>\n<p>Following the news, Bitcoin rose in the past 24 hours to trade above $111,000, while Ethereum gained 2% to hover just below $4,000, according to Bitcoin Magazine Pro data.<\/p>\n<p>Back in July, JPMorganChase and Coinbase <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/jpmorgan-and-coinbase-announce-partnership-to-accelerate-crypto-adoption\">announced<\/a> a strategic partnership to make Bitcoin and crypto access easier for their customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The deal included a direct bank-to-wallet connection, the ability to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points for crypto, and credit card funding for Coinbase accounts.
