GameStop, the publicly-traded video game operator, has announced that it\u2019s adding Bitcoin (BTC) as a treasury reserve asset.<\/p>\n
The New York Stock Exchange listed company, whose GME has become a popular meme stock, announced the move via a press release<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n According to the announcement, GameStop\u2019s board unanimously approved the decision to update the company\u2019s investment policy to allow for adoption of BTC.<\/p>\n The company joins a host of others to have jumped onto the Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset bandwagon following huge moves by Tesla and Strategy<\/a>. The latter, formerly MicroStrategy, has gone on to become the world\u2019s largest corporate holder of BTC.<\/p>\n GameStop\u2019s big announcement follows the company\u2019s fourth quarter earnings report released after the bell on March 25, 2025. But notably, this comes about a month since initial reports<\/a> emerged suggesting the video game operator was looking into crypto. Speculation at the time was that the company was considering adding BTC to its balance sheet.<\/p>\n At the time, most of the fuel to this narrative hinged on a post by GameStop chief executive officer Ryan Cohen.<\/p>\n In the image shared<\/a> on X, Cohen was with Strategy founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor.<\/p>\n As noted above, Saylor\u2019s artificial intelligence-powered business intelligence solutions provider holds the largest haul of BTC by a corporate entity. Following its latest purchase, Strategy holds over 506,000 bitcoins, acquired for over $33.7 billion.<\/p>\n Bitcoin traded near $88,200 at the time of writing, flat in the past 24 hours but nearly 8% up in the past week.
