According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-01-30\/sam-bankman-fried-s-parents-explore-seeking-trump-pardon-for-son\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg<\/a>, the pair hopes to receive clemency for their son, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/Sam+Bankman-Fried\">Bankman-Fried<\/a> was <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/bankman-fried-sentenced-to-25-years-in-prison\/\">sentenced last March<\/a> after being found guilt of fraud. The platform filed for bankruptcy in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2>Pardoning Ulbricht<\/h2>\n<p>The move comes as <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/donald-trump-signs-order-pardons-silk-road-creator-ross-ulbricht\/\">Trump gave a presidential pardon<\/a> to Silk Road creator <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/Ross+Ulbricht\">Ross Ulbricht<\/a> in the first week of entering the White House.<\/p>\n<p>During his presidential campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/trump-promises-to-free-silk-road-creator-ross-ulbricht-if-re-elected\/\">Trump promised that he would release Ulbricht<\/a> \u2013 who served 12 years in prison \u2013 if he was re-elected as president.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, Bankman-Fried previously called his sentence \u201cdraconian\u201d despite FTX customers having recovered most of their money. In December, it was reported that the crypto exchange would <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/ftx-to-begin-customer-repayments-in-early-2025\/\">begin repaying customers in early January<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Wang, FTX co-founder, <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/ftx-co-founder-gary-wang-avoids-prison-time-in-crypto-fraud-case\/\">avoided a prison sentence<\/a> in November with judge Lewis Kaplan sentencing him to time served. Nishad Singh, an ex-FTX executive, also <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/ex-ftx-executive-nishad-singh-sentenced-to-time-served-after-guilty-plea\/\">avoided a prison sentence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research \u2013 the sister company to FTX \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/search\/Caroline+Ellison\">received a 24-month prison sentence<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n<p>Last Sunday, early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver posted a video message on X <a href=\"https:\/\/coinjournal.net\/news\/elon-musk-doesnt-think-roger-ver-should-get-a-presidential-pardon\/\">calling on Trump to help him<\/a> avoid a prison sentence of up to 109 years. In his message, Ver wrote: \u201cMr. President, I am an American, and I need your help.
