\nCullen Hoback, director of the documentary, claims that Todd is blowing things out of proportion saying his life is in danger after being named Nakamoto<\/p>\n
Peter Todd, a Bitcoin core developer, has gone into hiding over fears for his safety after an HBO documentary named him Bitcoin\u2019s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.<\/p>\n
Aired earlier this month<\/a> and directed by Cullen Hoback, the \u201cMoney Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,\u201d examined Bitcoin\u2019s early days and some of its key figures, one of which was Todd. Another was Blockstream founder Adam Back.<\/p>\n During the documentary\u2019s finale, when confronted with a question from Hoback, Todd said: \u201cYeah, I\u2019m Satoshi Nakamoto<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Ahead of the documentary\u2019s release, Todd denied he was Satoshi<\/a>. Following the documentary\u2019s release, Todd took to social media again to deny he was Satoshi<\/a> after someone called him out, writing, \u201cI\u2019m not Satoshi.\u201d<\/p>\n In an interview with Wired<\/a>, Todd<\/a> indicated that he\u2019s gone into hiding following the documentary over fears for his safety.<\/p>\n Harassment Todd\u2019s faced includes receiving 25 emails over two days for someone asking him to help repay a loan.<\/p>\n In an email to the publication, Todd said:<\/p>\n \u201cObviously, falsely claiming that ordinary people of ordinary wealth are extraordinarily rich exposes them to threats like robbery and kidnapping.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Todd, he didn\u2019t realize the documentary was trying to uncover the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, but rather document the crypto asset\u2019s history.<\/p>\n Todd added: \u201cNot only is the question dumb, it\u2019s dangerous. Satoshi obviously didn\u2019t want to be found, for good reasons, and no one should help people trying to find Satoshi.\u201d<\/p>\n In Hoback\u2019s view, Todd is blowing things out of proportion and that nothing terrible has happened to other people who were believed to be Satoshi.<\/p>\n According to Hoback, unveiling the identity of Satoshi is a matter of public interest and \u201cpretty important\u201d because that person is \u201cpotentially on track to become the wealthiest on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n Hoback\u2019s reasoning behind Todd being Bitcoin\u2019s creator lies in a 2010 web forum post in which Todd responded to one of Satoshi\u2019s posts.
